Displacement (distance)

Displacement (distance)

The shortest path between the starting and ending points, along with the direction.

Example: Imagine you take a winding path through a park, walking a total of 3 km. But when you finish you find yourself only 1 km from your starting point. This means your displacement is just 1 km, despite the longer distance you walked.

Displacement is a vector because it has both magnitude and direction.
